The KIWI Wire Strainer
is the
American-made original; often imitated but
never duplicated. With a galvanized strap and
spring clip and zinc cog, this is a durable and
long-tested strainer.

First fasten all wires at their proper heights
on the posts. (Strainers should not be
installed immediately next to a rise or dip
post.) Install the strainer at the midpoint of
the fence. If the wire is being pulled around
several corners, it is best to be at the center
of friction. Generally we recommend one
tightener per strand for every 2600 feet of
fence.
Snap a vise grip onto the cog axle just
outside the bracket. Put wire through the
hole in the spool until it is just out the other
side.
WIRE STRAINER INSTALLATION
After cranking the spool nearly halfway
around, pull the assembly so the wire
moderately tightens. The wire should
naturally bend over to the opposite side of
the spool from the hole.
Wind the wire around, being careful to
wind on top of the first section of wire.
This will take the stress off the tight bend
at the hole. Pull tighter and neatly wind
across the spool towards the hole. Be careful
as wire approaches higher tensions. Wear
leather gloves, eye protection and use proper
tightening handle.
Strain wires from top to bottom for easier
separation of the wires and to provide
clearance for turning the handle on the
in-line ratchet.
