Wires 1, 3, and 5 are Hot Wires 2, 4, and 6 are Ground
Ground Bed

Advantages:

1. Maintains a more consistent shock during times of the year when the ground is dry or frozen.
2. Gives returning electrons a more direct path to the charger ground bed.
3. Unifies the earth return system throughout the pasture area.
4. Can help divert lightning strikes to ground away from the charger.
5. Still works both ways.
6. Can often help with stray voltage problems.

Disadvantages:

1. Requires the fence to be well constructed and maintained.
2. If positive and negative wires come in contact with each other it will drain all the energy from the fence line.
